Viewing Event Record: Sharers' Papers

A statement of fact made in 1634 between the Globe consortium and Sir Matthew Brend takes note of an agreement reached between Brend and the sharers following the destruction of the first Globe. Taking into account the consortium's intention to spend £1000 in rebuilding the playhouse, in consideration, furthermore, of the damage and loss suffered by the players, and on the promise of £10 to be paid to him once he reached seniority, Brend promised to extend the original thirty-one year lease on the playhouse by fifteen years. The same conditions that obtained under the old contract were to apply to the extended lease.
